Space combat = Starfox 64?

You make a good point. No other "minigame" has been given this much media focus in interviews, magazines, etc. That is what makes this whole situation contradictory. On the one hand they talk about it being a minigame, whilst on the other allow magazines to plaster it all over the front covers, multi-page interview spreads and save the announcement for exhibitions. In short, they are marketing space combat as if it was a major feature. Which can end up disappointing people when they find out that it has all the depth of a teaspoon.
Had Bioware just mentioned in the forums "yes, the game has space combat but don't expect anything massive" and not bothered saving it for exhibitions and not had interviews specifically on the subject, then perhaps things may have been different.
The Original Post
Space combat = Starfox 64? - Is it just me or does anybody else think that the current space combat system seems rather ridiculous for an MMO? Space combat appears to be nothing more than a reflex tunnel shooter. When i first heard about space combat, i jumped for joy expecting something like Homeworld, EVE online or even DarkStar One, then i found out it was nothing more than a HD version of StarFox 64.
An MMO is about freedom of movement, choices, and social interaction, with intelligent thought out planning in combat. It seems that space combat will be nothing more than a reflex mini-game rather than an integral part of the game. I was expecting to be able to travel to different planets in your own space ship, not forced into the same singleplayer missions over and over with little variation, which is what it appears to be.
And moderators we need more than one thread discussing space combat, i dont want to sift through 1000 blind posts saying nothing more than "Looks awesome".
AND YES, STARFOX 64 WAS AN EXCELLENT GAME! Not denying that fact. [Swtor.com Community]
