Question : Can i Play Swtor on a Mac ? Simple Answer : Yes

Our Testing Group has found a solution where the swtor client played nicely on a Mac without any problem at all !
Unfortunately the tester was only in the first public beta weekend and he didn't tested the new build where the graphics were in full without restrictions to give feedback first for the performance and second for compatibility of the client.
The Solution is : a) Parallels Desktop 7 and b) run the client under windows 7 environment.
Of course this solution needs a new Mac Build ,NOT any mac older than 3 or more years old !
His machine is not the latest iMac , but an Apple
iMac 27 (i5) 3.1GHz
Ram: 4GB
Disk: 1TB
Graphic Card: Ati 4850 512 mb ram.
it is a 2010 build , so the new ones will play the game flue-less
So lets go to the pictures were all come true !!!
as you can see the environment is a macosx and my friend is an ex-wow player
the last one picture below is from full screen ( 2560x1440 aka 27" mac screen
right click open i a new window to see it in full screen ) . he told me that when he played in full screen the fps dropped 10 fps from 35-50 to 25-30 fps.
Update Today , he told me that i understood Wrong. When he used the fullscreen ( 2560x1440 ) the fps increased !
------------------------------------------------------
Important Note : Of course we are not say to anyone to buy the Parallels Desktop 7 right now , since our beta tester did not did the test with the final swtor build ( the last swtor client build )
, but i have a feeling that nothing bad will happen in these 2 weeks and this feeling pushed me to make this announced article
. The solution is very easy but i need to note that we don't know what will happen in the last build , so DO NOT HURRY UP AND BUY ANY SOFTWARE until the release day where i will post in my site the final test result
-------------------------------------------------------
Update : In two days he reported us in teamspeak that he had only one crash one Parallels crash , not swtor client crash

i will wait the update for the release build !
gg chris
thanks . i will wait some results from linux compatibility testing too
SWTOR will play much smoother in Boot Camp. Just reboot into native windows using the bootcamp video drivers for your system and you are set without the performance hit.
If you are worried about buying windows simply download the windows 8 Developer preview which is free right now.

hey mate . you misunderstood the scope of these tests. we are mac and linux users and we do not want change to be windows users even for a star wars game like swtor
we have an open conversation on my google page about the pros and the cons of the emulation solution for mac . feel free to come and post your opinion

As soon as early access opens, I will let you know about the SWTOR graphics on iMac with Parallels Desktop.
At 50% it run almost smoothly, with a bit of "video lag" when too many textures were on the screen (usually in areas with many players). One solution I found was to lower the detail of shadows but frankly I don't have a clew (yet) if that will work on the latest build of the game
Stay tuned, people!

I have been working on tweaking a wineskin wrapper for the client. Currently I don't have access until I get my early access pass. The Wrapper worked fine with SWTOR on one of the test weekends. I am just waiting for my code to tweak it.
If all else fails I will use bootcamp to run the program.
My specs are:
OS: 10.7.2
Processor: 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Ram: 4 GB 1067 MHz Ram
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB
we have feedback from our mac user for the final client and i will update the original thread post ,asap
Since all our Mac Testers cancelled their subscription and returned to wow due to the issue of the mouse we have not any idea on how to make Final Swtor Client works with Parallels Desktop 7.
For this reason i will close and un-sticky this thread because it is useless for mac owners .
I hope one day EA will learn something from Blizzard who released a mac client
