The Old Republic Opens Up!
Submitted by Dev Robot on Tue, 11/22/2011 - 18:27Folks,
As of now, the non disclosure portion of our Game Testing Agreement is officially lifted. While all players must still accept the Game Testing Agreement, from this point on testers may now freely talk about their experiences this past weekend in the game, as well as post screenshots and gameplay videos of their testing experiences. We encourage you to come join us on the official Star Wars: The Old Republic Forums to share your experiences!
The Star Wars: The Old Republic community site will have a copy of this message on the forums and it will also appear in the Patcher. Players may not talk about nor reprint posts from our testing forums as they are still fully covered by the confidentiality portions of our Game Testing Agreement. And all players who want to participate in the upcoming Beta Test Weekends still have to accept all terms of the Game Testing Agreement. So, other than that, free feel to talk about and share your experiences in Star Wars: The Old Republic.
My thanks go out to everyone who has beta tested and continues to beta test the game. It has been with your help and feedback that Star Wars: The Old Republic is where it is today. We really appreciate your efforts.
May the Force be with you!
Greg Zeschuk
[ Update 3 ] Next Beta Testing Weekend - FAQ
Submitted by Dev Robot on Sat, 11/12/2011 - 00:10Updated the original post with a couple of more FAQ answers from this thread.
To answer other queries: for those of you who have been emailed this afternoon, as the email says, you have been selected to test in an upcoming Beta Test Weekend (which this FAQ refers to). You will be invited - and be able to download the client - closer to the upcoming weekend.
In other words, there are two Testing Weekends currently on the calendar. This weekend (11th-13th of November) for which invites have already been sent. You can tell if you have an invite to this weekend by the fact that the email has those dates in it.
Everyone who is signed up to test is eligible for the upcoming Beta Testing Weekend, and notification on when you can download the game client will be sent closer to the weekend's start.
[ Update 2 ] Next Beta Testing Weekend - FAQ
Submitted by Dev Robot on Fri, 11/11/2011 - 22:37
One of my characters is in this weekend beta.
I guess I'm a bit confused on the announcment, so forgive me if it sounds stupid.
So what this means, is if I'm already in this weekend beta, I get into next weekend, and next weekend and so on, till launch?
I understand, I won't need any further codes, as I'll take away the chance for someone else, but I'm just trying to understand the announcment is all. Thanks in advance and again, sorry if it sounds dumb.
You'll be able to play in the next Beta Test Weekend - but we haven't announced that date, yet. Whenever it is, you'll play in it. As it says in the FAQ, we're expecting this future weekend to be the last Beta Testing Weekend.
if i havent yet ever been invited to beta...will i be able to get a code for the first time these weekends?
Yes you will.
Next Beta Testing Weekend - FAQ
Submitted by Dev Robot on Fri, 11/11/2011 - 21:15Does this announcement mean I can play Star Wars: The Old Republic this weekend?
No it does not, unless you have a previous testing invite - either to this weekend or to general Game Testing. The Beta Testing Weekend we are referring to will happen in the next few weeks.
When will the Beta Testing Weekend start?
It will happen in the next few weeks. We'll have an announcement on the exact timing closer to the weekend's start.
Will this be the final Beta Testing Weekend?
Currently, we expect it to be.
Will I be able to download the game client in advance of the weekend?
Yes, we will be sending out invites to download the game client in advance of the weekend.
I have previously tested Star Wars: The Old Republic. Will I get invited to the upcoming Beta Testing Weekend?
Yes, you will. Every person that is signed up and opted in for Game Testing before November 11th will be invited to this Beta Testing Weekend.
What if I do not live in a launch country for Star Wars: The Old Republic?
As long as you are signed up and opted in for testing, you will be invited to test.
What if I have not signed up, or opted in for testing by November 11th?
Beta Test Weekend Announced
Submitted by Dev Robot on Fri, 11/11/2011 - 21:03When we started our Beta Testing Weekends, we told you that each weekend would include more testers than the last. Were excited to announce that later this month we will be conducting our largest Beta Testing Weekend yet, specifically designed to help us stress test our servers in preparation for the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic.
How can you take part in this coming Beta Test Weekend? Well, for starters we are happy to announce that anyone who has signed up for our Game Testing Program prior to today, November 11th, will get invited! Invites will be sent in the coming weeks.
So how many EU invites really? Under 10%?
Submitted by Dev Robot on Fri, 11/11/2011 - 17:16Just to chime in here - this round of EU invites haven't all gone out yet, they're still sending.
[ Update ] EU Beta update coming today!
Submitted by Dev Robot on Fri, 11/11/2011 - 08:21
Most EU testers have been france/germany only.
I'd feel quite bad if I can't get an invite from US testing, and EU testing didn't count english speaking players. I mean, where does that leave us Brits?
Actually, I want to highlight that past EU testing invite rounds have included players from all EU launch territories, not just France and Germany. Some tests have been FR/DE specific, but not all. There certainly isn't an imbalance.
EU Beta update coming today!
Submitted by Dev Robot on Thu, 11/10/2011 - 23:25
Er, both? We'll be sending until late in the day here, which is later in the day in the EU.
Whenever we finish sending, we'll update this specific post with that fact. Until then, you'll still have a chance.
stephenreid, you can't even say to us about the % of europeans you are inviting? is something like 1, 2, 5%?
No, in exactly the same way we won't be drawn on general numbers.
Invites are still going out.
Of course not.
It'll be a tiny amount, and this is just an exercise in placation.
Never assume...
Over the course of today (and possibly into tomorrow) we're inviting more Game Testers from the EU than we've ever invited in a single 'wave'.
It's not the entire number we have signed up, but it's a significant proportion. There will be other invites before launch.
[ Update 2 ] Beta RSVP link not working?
Submitted by Dev Robot on Thu, 11/10/2011 - 01:49We've made the changes required to fix the accounts that were affected, and all should now be able to accept their invite.
To ensure your browser has not cached the page in question, we advise you to clear your browser's cache before trying to re-accept the invite.
If you still have issues, please email Customer Service at support@swtor.com who will attempt to help you. Thanks for your patience!
[Update] Beta RSVP link not working?
Submitted by Dev Robot on Wed, 11/09/2011 - 22:06Hello all,
We've investigated this issue further overnight, and I've got an update for you. It looks like a small number of people got stuck in a unhelpful state within our database. That means the problem's on our side, not yours, so don't worry about trying different browsers or similar to fix it yourself.
Our DB team is tracking down the affected accounts and should roll out a fix later today. When that happens, you'll be able to accept the invite. We'll update this thread when the fix is applied. Thanks for your patience while we resolve this!
Guild Testing Program Details
Submitted by Dev Robot on Thu, 10/27/2011 - 07:42Quote:
Darth Hater: Have you thought of extending the guild testing program to Europe?
Chris: Definitely. It is something we're looking at doing. Stay tuned to swtor.com for more.
Source: PGW 2011: Chris Collins Interview
So have you or have you not invited EU guilds? Considering we are getting inaccurate information from either David Bass or Chris Collins. When Chris was asked that question in Paris, he wasn't aware that I had been inviting guilds from all regions in the Guild Headquarters. This was due to a miscommunication on my part, and I apologize for any confusion it's caused.
To be completely clear: There are already a significant number of guilds in the Guild Testing program who have marked themselves as EU guilds on the Guild Headquarters. We no longer restrict our guild testing invites based on the region the guild selects in the Guild HQ.
Beta testing confusion
Submitted by Dev Robot on Wed, 10/26/2011 - 21:36It seems there may be some confusion here about the difference between Early Game Access and the Game Testing Program.
Early Game Access is granted to those who Pre-Order the game and redeem their Pre-Order Code on our website. It is early access to the game servers before the official launch, and isn't a part of testing. To learn more about Early Game Access, see our Pre-Order FAQ: http://www.swtor.com/preorder/faq#q209656.
For the Game Testing Program, we randomly select testers from the list of people who are signed up on SWTOR.com and have opted-in to test. This gives you access to the testing servers, sometimes for a limited time, and is not the same as Early Game Access.
I hope that helps!
NDA acceptance
Submitted by Dev Robot on Mon, 10/24/2011 - 16:17In order to be selected for testing, you have to opt-in and agree to the Game Testing Agreement. Pre-ordering the game, however, does not require agreeing to the Game Testing Agreement the agreement only binds testers and those who have opted-in to be selected for testing.
It is not necessary to agree to the Game Testing Agreement to participate on the forums, but the Rules of Conduct (which everyone must adhere to) do state that "Posting, linking, quoting, reproducing, or discussing confidential information from the game testing program is prohibited on the forums." Even if you did not agree to the Game Testing Agreement (meaning you didnt opt-in to be selected for testing), the discussion of confidential information is not permitted on the forums. Hopefully that clears up any misunderstanding!
5 Reasons that Bioware must use the fan base to open test swtor

So far it seems like they have only been testing in small amounts ( 100 players ) and that will most likely not be the case with the release.
When swtor goes live and servers are awaiting the first players to walk in it ,there is always a risk to be the first day
- crash fest
- Queue fest
- Synchonize problems Fest
- Exploit / dupe / Hack Fest attacks and of cource
- Lag Fest
that the forums in the first days will be hammered with to many problems that will be the community manager's nightmare. A recent mmo game I have been seeing executing open test it fairly correctly was Rift. the headstart gave pre-ordered players the ability to play days before the launch. Failure myths within the normal release has already hammered some mmorpg releases in the past. i don't want right now referrer any of these mmos, but many of us we know what happend in the past. I'm not saying Bioware or better EA should start inviting thousands of players right now, but it would be a good choise the hard test and be better preparation for the worst case scenarios within the last month before launch. An other option is pre-sell and pre-launch a week before normal start, but the time to investigate and solve the problems is limited.
